PRESS RELEASE
‘Dream Landscape’ is the first official solo release by ANEMONE TUBE after 9 years of
silence. Originally founded in 1996 in Southern Germany, ANEMONE TUBE has quite made a name for himself in the industrial/noise genre especially due to the psychogenic nature of his music. On this new release ANEMONE TUBE creates massive ambient/noise soundscapes. The sounds are pulsating, drowning and floating, tormenting and caressing – all culminating in a haunting sonic experience.
‘Dream Landscape’ is the first part of “The Suicide Series”, for which field recordings
provide a conceptional basis. ‘Dream Landscape’ is a concept album of fierce malignant
power. In a poetic way ANEMONE TUBE combines analytical realism of the phenomenal world with buddhist psychology and nihilist rhetoric influenced by the visionary authors H.P. Lovecraft and Yukio Mishima.
Mastering by JAMES PLOTKIN, January/February 2010.
The special edition bonus DVD is a collaborative work between the brazilian video artist
GUSTAVO DE LACERDA and ANEMONE TUBE. The work, entitled 1515, is a conceptual
experimental film made in Rotterdam. The soundtrack is based on real-time field recordings made in in Nanjing and Shanghai.

REVIEWS (EXCERPTS)
“... a genuinely unique amalgamation of sounds which owes more to ANENZEPHALIA-esque power electronics mannerisms than it does to typically apparent field recording collectors
(Night Science IV Magazine, Chris Groves, July 2010)
“Stylistically Anemone Tube avails himself of genres of dark ambient and power electronics, but created a totally unique new mixture, which constantly spreads in new facettes. (...) On ‘Dream Landscape’ Anemone Tube offers intense soundart, inspired and complex, beyond the limits of dark ambient. And all this in an appealing design – what do you want more?”

“When it is written, that ‘Dream Landscape’ is influenced by authors like Lovecraft and Mishima, then these referenzes let arise the mountains of madness in the mind’s eye. We find ourselves beyond the walls of sleep. Great release.”

REVIEWS
"I was pretty excited when S. contacted me about the renewed Anemone Tube, and for good reason: I’m not sure if it’s a taste so many others share, but I always found Anemone Tube material particularly well planned and unquestionably focused. This new round of material is largely sourced from field recordings made in China, supplemented on ‘Dream Landscape’ with some subtle synth tones, all patiently honed and effected for a genuinely unique amalgamation of sounds which owes more to ANENZEPHALIA-esque power electronics mannerisms than it does to typically apparent field recording collectors.
There’s no intention here to recreate a mood or time already passed; instead – and somewhat similarly to JOHN WATERMANN’s essential ‘Calcutta Gas Chamber’ (CD on ND/Cold Spring and 12” on Die Stadt) – the sounds are shaped, looped, treated and manifested into a completely new, more invigorated shape. Particularly malevolent is “Demoniac Reign”, adding ominous muffled speech fragments to the flaying high-end storms and dramatic synth drone which are the common themes to ‘Dream Landscape’. But each track making up this half hour or so has its own energy and blend of textures, all with that assuredness found on previous Anemone Tube recordings.”
(Night Science IV Magazine, Chris Groves, July 2010)

"Less than half hour, but hardly a "single". It's been many years since AT put out stuff, 7 years already since the previous CD. Not sure, if we can talk about a "comeback", but sometimes taking a break will do you good. Sometimes the artist seemed to lose grip in what they were doing. I would dare to say Anemone Tube is here stronger than ever! It's nearly a shame, that it ends so quick, but perhaps makes it easier to give it another listen right away. 5 songs are relative short pieces, and amazing textures of sound, mastered to crispy but natural sound. Intense droning ice cold feedback layers. Deep bassy echoing soundscapes. Natural sounds, like birds and concrete objects. Massive simply keyboard tones done with taste. Screech of iron and crispy electronics. It`s hard to say, if it should be filed under experimental, ambient, post-industrial? It is noisy, but everything has its place and all the sound seems carefully crafted into perfection. Each track has its own atmosphere and the shifts within the tracks themselves and overall feeling of minialbum is done very well. Multipanelled dvd size cardboard sleeve with very stylish black/white gold print with great quality artwork. Often I got impression not so many people checked out this German project, but I would urge to do so now! "

"I had heard of Anemone Tube over the years, but had not had a chance to check them out so I was quite interested to give this a listen. Anemone Tube throws down an interesting mix of noise and atmosphere. You can get a sense of the vein this artist runs in by looking who they have performed with: Inade, Svartsinn, The (Law-Rah) Collective, Hybryds, and Schloss Tegal are the ones that stood out to me. According to the label, this album is part of the 'Suicide Series' and 'is a concept album of fierce malignant power. In a poetic way Anemone Tube combines analytical realism of the phenomenal world with buddhist psychology and nihilist rhetoric influenced by the visionary authors H.P. Lovecraft and Yukio Mishima.' Although I quite enjoy noise music, I had a hard time finding the concept in it. For me, it is really enough to say that this is well constructed noise music that is not overly harsh. If you think that Inade and Schloss Tegal are not noisy enough but you think that Merzbow and Masonna are not atmospheric enough, Anemone Tube is definitely the band for you. Fans of Brighter Death Now, Inade, Strom ec, and Daniel Menche probably already have this, but if they don't, they should. The only issue I have with this is that it is rather short, weighing in at about 23 minutes.
This album is packaged with a bonus DVD that is a 16 minute collaboration between Brazilian video artist Gustavo de Lacerda and Anemone Tube. The work, entitled 1515, is a conceptual experimental film made in Rotterdam. The soundtrack is based on real-time field recordings made in Nanjing and Shanghai. Conceptually, the video sounded interesting. Take video of a wall at the same time each day and then edit it together. Like many things that sound good in theory the execution was not as interesting as the concept. The constantly changing shadow patters are a bit too subtle and slow moving to be interesting. Musically, however, I found this to be excellent. It serves as an interesting counterpoint to the studio recording that is at times brooding and subdued until it lulls you into a false sense of security, then unleashes a fury of noise.
This release comes packaged in an oversized 5 panel foldout that reminds me of the old Amplexus packaging. Quite nice. This release is limited to 500 copies, so you'll want to get yours before they are gone."
(Chain DLK, eskaton, October 2010)
“Dream Landscape” is Anemone Tube’s first release after an extended break, and is the first part of the “Suicide Series”, a concept series based on field recordings made during the artist’s trip in Nanjing and Shanghai, China in 2007. The second part of the series is “Death Over China” which was released some months ago, in 2011. “Dream Landscape” comes in a 500 copies limited edition, in a 5 panel folder with a 21 x 14 cm metallic/black print, packaged in a transparent bag. 200 of these copies contain a bonus DVD titled “1915”, an experimental film directed by Gustavo De Lacerda, with soundtrack by Anemone Tube, based on the same field recordings as the album. The concept of the video is very interesting, as for an entire year the same wall of an apartment in Rotterdam was shot for 15:15 minutes, at 15:15 each day. The collection of videos was compressed into a final 15:15 minute film. That was invested with 15:15 minute recordings from various places in China, also taken at 15:15, which were in their turn compressed by accumulating 7 layers of sound into a 15:15 track. It may seem confusing, and in another occasion perhaps pointless, but given Anemone Tube’s intuitive talent in combining art and reality and transforming those into an entirely new beast, I would be curious to see/hear the result.
A few words from the artist clarify the origins of the “Suicide Series”: “Noisy cityscapes drowned with smog and lonely back countries where people commit suicide are for me phenomena of a morbid excrescence of our nowadays affluent society, whose social and highly industrialized development has a self-destructive tendency that cannot be denied. For me the title “The Suicide Series“ stands for the suicidal behaviour of our affluent society”. Taking that in mind along with the statement that Anemone Tube “combines analytical realism of the phenomenal world with buddhist psychology and nihilist rhetoric influenced by the visionary authors H.P. Lovecraft and Yukio Mishima” it is easy to comprehend what the series wishes to express. The idea of death and loss is clearly stated in Buddhism, through the emphasis placed in the transience of all things, their inevitable course towards extinction and the illusory nature of the notion of Self as a complete and undivided unit. Mishima’s work is investigating sacrifice and suffering connected to events and situations in real life, political and social as well as personal, such as the suppression of homosexuality, suicidal tendencies and the influence of political events on people. Mishima was beheaded in a ritual manner by one of his comrades, after participating in a failed coup d’état. On the other hand H.P. Lovecraft’s panic-stricken, inescapable sense of cosmic doom is to me one of the most complete, irrefutable expressions of nihilism in literature. The world is threatened by ancient, unimaginably powerful creatures, the very sight of which can cause madness to the human mind. No sense of purpose or understanding exists anywhere, and nothing can be done about it. The heroes in Lovecraft’s stories do not allow themselves to hope for anything more than a sheltered existence in absolute fear, pushing away the agonies of madness constantly clawing at their brain.
That same sense of the imaginary unexpectedly pouring into everyday reality, blurring the line between the two worlds to the point where doubt begins to grow, and terror begins to take root in the mind, is what is mostly being communicated in “Dream Landscape”. Gradually reaching the point where identity is being questioned, glimpses of a hellish realm appear. Compared to “Death Over China” this album is less raw, more atmospheric and multifaceted. The field recordings have been subjected to more manipulation, studio sounds have been added and the fictional element is generally more present. Whereas “Death Over China” is a crushing, despair-filled journey into the Inferno of binding, torturing reality, in “Dream Landscape” the fantastic reigns, the hell we see here is not that which we can perceive around us, but the one that bleeds through in our dreams. Merciless demons, horrible tortures and bleak, desolated spaces parade in front of our closed eyes, while we are helplessly drifted through everything, incapable to react. The element of realism however is not completely obliterated, it exists in the recognizability of the field recordings, and the overall passiveness and dejectedness ruling the ambient side of the music.
“Above The Dark Waters” is a down-tempo ambient track invested with organic, watery sounds, its gossamer web retaining the semblance of calmness, under the threatening undertone of the melody. It is the gate to this domain of nightmares, a realization that becomes evident as soon as “Dream Landscape” begins, with its repetitive industrial noise sequence and ominous droning giving a clear idea of what is to follow. “Demoniac Reign”, in my opinion the best track in the album, is a kaleidoscopic intermingling of loops consisting of a very melodic, atmospheric ambient synth sequence, a continuous, repetitive noise drone and different voice samples and unrecognisable sounds. The result is a wonderfully evocative track emitting the same cold, absolute horror one would expect from demonic rulers, coupled with a sense of distorted dignity, and austere charm. “Winds Of Fire” is an aggressive, persistent noise droning while “L`Enfer C`est Les Autres” is a heavy wall of varying noise, ambient and industrial electronics, which subsides about a minute before the end, giving way to the voices of the crowd, the demons of the ordinary.
The persistent drones, gloomy dark ambient atmospheres, industrial grinding, chaotic rhythms and the ever-present impressions of the Chinese cityscapes collaborate in this album to create a fear-inducing, yet at the same time fascinating environment. This duality can be found in Anemone Tube’s next album as well, and it is parallel to the dual character of the music, moving around two essential axis points: noise and dark ambient. The final imprint leaves an aftertaste of crumpled beauty, of ruined elegance and fallen grace."

(Kindamuzik, Sven Schlijper, July 2010)
